Frequently Asked Question
When trying to open Typhoon HIL Control Center, you are met with the following error:
When this issue occurs, it’s due to the machine’s graphics card configuration, and can be an issue for multiple programs besides Typhoon HIL Control Center.
Some known causes of the issue are the following:
- The graphics card driver is out-of-date.
- There are conflicting graphics cards in the machine.
- Remote Desktop session causing conflict between graphics cards.
- (For AMD Radeon graphics cards) AMD Radeon software not running the program in the correct mode.
The graphics card driver is out-of-date.
Sometimes, an outdated graphics card driver can be a cause of the issue. In that case, it is recommended to update the driver:
1. Open Device Manager (search for Device Manager in the Start Menu and open it).
2. Locate your graphics card under the Display Adapters section.
3. Right-click on the device and select ‘Update driver’.
4. Select ‘Automatically search for the updated driver software’.
5. Restart the computer.
Note: You can also check your computer manufacturer’s website, download the latest display drivers for your computer, and install the same.
There are conflicting graphics cards in the machine.
Sometimes, a conflict in graphics cards can cause the occurrence of the issue, especially when a computer has a dedicated graphics card in addition to an integrated graphics card. You can check if this is the cause of the issue using the following method:
1. Open Device Manager (search for Device Manager in the Start Menu and open it).
2. Locate your graphics cards under the Display Adapters section.
3. Right-click on the first graphics card and select ‘Disable Device’.
4. Restart your computer and try running Typhoon HIL Control Center.
5. Go into Device Manager and re-enable the first graphics card. After this is done, disable the second graphics card.
6. Repeat step 4.
If the issue is resolved after disabling one card or the other, this is an indication that the conflicting graphic cards are causing the issue.
Remote Desktop session causing conflict between graphics cards.
The issue occurs when using the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to connect to a remote machine to remotely access Typhoon HIL Control Center. In this case, what may be occurring is a conflict between the video card specified by the RDP connection and the one used by Typhoon HIL Control Center installed on the remote machine. The solution for this is to disable the graphics driver on the remote machine before running Typhoon HIL Control Center. This can be done as follows:
1. Open Device Manager (search for Device Manager in the Start Menu and open it).
2. Locate your graphics card under the Display Adapters section.
3. Right-click on the device and select ‘Disable Device’.
4. Typhoon HIL Control Center should now start normally.
Note: We recommend re-enabling the device after you finish your Typhoon HIL Control Center session, as while disabled the display generated on the remote system will be inactive.
(For AMD Radeon graphics cards) AMD Radeon software not running the program in the correct mode.
Sometimes, the cause of the issue can be related to Typhoon HIL Control Center not being properly configured in the AMD Radeon software, particularly inside of its Switchable Graphics option. Inside of Switchable Graphics, applications can have different operation modes assigned to them. The mode assigned to Typhoon HIL Control by default can be a cause of the issue. If that is the case, changing the operation mode of Typhoon HIL Control Center to High Performance Mode can be a solution to the issue. This procedure is explained in-depth in this document, which is a part of AMD’s official documentation.
